In today’s business world, testimonials need to be an important part of any small business’ digital marketing strategy. Video testimonials from actual customers are much more powerful than audio testimonials, and even Google and Yelp reviews, because it gives viewers a chance to see someone else who was in their shoes prior to working with your company.

With that in mind, here are three tips for your video testimonials:

how to create your video testimonials

  1. Control your environment. A quiet office will be a much better location than a Starbucks/Panera. At public areas like these, you’ll likely to run into a group of kids in the background, or the “Starbucks name announcement” every time a drink is ready. So try to film your video in a quiet setting, preferably your office. If you’re working from home, try to find a quiet conference room like the ones found at hotels. A couple of bucks might be all it would cost you to utilize their conference room for a few minutes of filming.
  1. Give your Reviewer your questions before they arrive. If you’re questions have already been provided to your review, he or she can take a few minutes to gather their thoughts on the subjects. This way, the answers will be more conversational, and seem much more natural on video. Remind them that they can always start an answer over, in case they feel they’ve made a mistake. All of these things will put your subject more at ease, and make your video that much better.
  1. Remind your testimonial giver that everything can and will be cut. This will help your reviewer relax, not having to worry if they have to sneeze, cough, or make a word jumble while speaking.

You don’t need a fancy video setup to get started with video testimonials. Actually, that can make people feel uncomfortable, and act unnatural.  An iPhone or decent Android works great, and I’d recommend one at this point over most single purpose video recorders. Remember, the more natural a video is, the better it will come across to viewers trying to gauge what type of experience that they can expect from your business.
