With high search rankings and social media marketing being major focus points for marketers these days, the primary factor behind more than half of all purchasing decisions is still ol’ fashion Word of Mouth.

Over the years, consumers have always valued opinions expressed directly to them. And while marketers may spend millions of dollars on elaborately conceived advertising campaigns, often what really makes up a customer’s mind is not only simple but also free: a word-of-mouth recommendation from a trusted source.

We recently wrote a few articles regarding video testimonials. With that said, we’ve had some clients break out the cameras and invite in their customers to film a video testimonial. A question that we’re often asked is, “what do I do now” or “what questions should I ask my customers?” So, here are 10 questions that you can ask your customers for their video testimonials.

  1. Give me a one-minute history of your career (or your success, or your business). (Get them relaxed and comfortable. Everyone loves talking about themselves.)
  2. How did you get involved with our company?
  3. What was the reason that you chose us?
  4. Was price more important that delivery, service, and quality? (This question gets to the value of the products/services you provide.)
  5. Tell me what your experience has been with our products/services? (Ask for the customer’s experience and wisdom.)
  6. Can you think of a word or phrase that best describes your relationship with us? Why that particular word or phrase?
  7. How has working with us changed the way your company does business?
  8. Have you had our competitors knock on your door? If so, what did you tell them?
  9. Why would you recommend us to someone else? (This is the key part of the testimonial.)
  10. If someone called you and said “Why should I do business with ABC company”, what would you tell them?

These questions should get your clients talking and the conversation flowing. It’s best for them to answer in a conversational form. If you’re looking for more tips on video testimonials, read our recent article, here.

Cheers!
